History came alive for Troop 44 during our recent Battle of the Bulge journey to Bastogne, Belgium, a trip that challenged our Scouts to walk where history happened and reflect on the meaning of service and sacrifice.
Over three unforgettable days, Scouts traced the footsteps of World War II soldiers through Marbourg, Clervaux, and Bastogne, standing in the Easy Company / 101st Airborne foxholes and learning how terrain shaped the fight during in-depth walks and historical briefings at Schumansseck. They explored the Bastogne tank museum, connecting stories they had studied to the equipment and environments of the time.
The most powerful moment came at the Luxembourg American Cemetery, where Scouts honored fallen soldiers they had researched themselves. Through a wreath laying and flag ceremony, they paused in quiet reflection, gaining a deeper understanding of the cost of freedom.
This trip was more than travel; it was a living classroom where Scouting values met real history. The lessons of leadership, remembrance, and service will stay with our Scouts long after the journey ended.
We are deeply grateful to the Stuttgart Community Spouses’ Club (SCSC) for their generous support, which helped make this meaningful experience possible.
